Juventus pay off Cristiano Ronaldo but lodge appeal against debt – with Serie A giants still fighting Portuguese superstar on unpaid wages front

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  Portuguese superstar Ronaldo took the Bianconeri to court over alleged unpaid wages. He claimed to have been owed a considerable sum on the back of spending three years in Turin between 2018 and 2021 – when he left Italy and returned to Manchester United.

  A court ruled in Ronaldo’s favour, with Juve instructed to pay half of what was owed while CR7 picked up the bill for the other 50%. The Bianconeri consider that matter to have been closed financially, with there no need for them to set aside any more funds.

  WHAT JUVENTUS' PRESIDENT SAID

  President Ferrero told a recent shareholders’ meeting when asked about any money still owed to the club’s former No.7: "We paid Cristiano Ronaldo in April, there’s no need for any risk fund. We paid 50% of the amount he requested, so there’s no need for a risk fund because the amounts have been paid."

  While Juve have cleared their debt, they are still hoping to receive some reimbursement. Having contested the original claims from Ronaldo, Ferrero added: "We don’t agree with this ruling, which established an equal division of responsibilities, so we’ve appealed it at the Turin court."
